Patna: Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) has taken Suo Motu cognisance of a report captioned ” Rain or sunshine, these kids are out on daily grind” published  in Hindustan Times , Patna edition, on Friday citing inadequate implementation of the labour laws relating to children  selling lemons or working on the streets.

The commission has directed Principal  Secretary, Labour Resources Department, Bihar government, and Principal Secretary, Social Welfare Department, Bihar government, to apprise it of the  institutionalised mechanism  in place to take care of such children and monitoring  of Labour Laws on the subject, accoding to BHRC member Neelmani. The  commission expects reports from them by August 31, 2016.

According to  the news ” As per an amendment in child labour laws in 2015, children can work in their family enterprises and on farmlands provided it is  done after school hours and during vacations”. The matter will be listed again on September 5,  2016.
