Ara : Police are yet to ascertain whether Sumit Singh, 25, son of Binod Singh of South Ekauna village under Udwantnagar police station in Bhojpur district, had committed suicide or was shot dead on August 23, 2020, evening.

Sumit Singh allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a pistol on August 23, 2020, late evening, allegedly due to strained relationship with his wife. He was live on Facebook before committing suicide and alleged that his wife had  extramarital relation with one Rahul of the same village. Police recovered his body form maize field and brought it over to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. Police also recovered some provisions and liquor from the spot but could not recover pistol.

Sumit Kumar had posted a video on Facebook before committing suicide in which bottles of liquor, pistol and other items were seen that suggested that he might have committed suicide but police could not recover the pistol that strengthened the theory of murder.

Sumit Singh was heard in the viral video saying that he wished to talk to the DGP, Bihar, Gupteshwar Pandey, to inform him that he had caught his wife talking to Rahul on mobile phone on June 6 and June 12, 2020. Locals said that immediately after it, they heard gunshot and rushed to the spot and found Sumit Singh dead. They informed  police about it.  An FIR was lodged with  Udwantnagar police station in this connection regard and Police are investigating the matter.

SHO, Udwantnagar police station, Chandan Jha said that prima facie it appears Sumit had committed suicide but police are also verifying the video posted on social media. The SHO said that Sumit Singh was married to Kamya of Badaka Dumara village about six months ago but their relationship was strained.
