Patna : Qualifier Yuki Bhambri, 28, India, crashed out of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships at Dubai, UAE, losing to World No 59 Aljaz Bedene, 31, Slovenia, in a three-set battle in the first round on March 15, 2021. Bedene beat Bhambri 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in first round rallying back from one set down. Bedene will face Lorenzo Giustino, Italy, in 2nd round on March 16, 2021.

Bedene fired 8 Aces in the match to 6 by Bhambri. But, he also committed 6 double faults during the match to 5 by the India. Bedene, however, won 3 break points during the match to 1 by Bhambri. The Slovenian won 5 games in a row to 3 by the Indian, who qualified for the main draw of the tournament defeating compatriots Prajnesh Gunneswaran and Ramkumar Ramnathan in qualifying rounds. Benene , in all, won 86 points during the match to 76 by Bhambri.

Qualifier & World No 150 Bernabe Zapata Miralles, 24, Spain,  however, advanced to the 2nd round defeating World No 40 John Millman, 31, Australia, in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 in 80 minutes in first round. Miralles won 3 break points during the match to 1 by Millman. He also won 5 games in a row during the match to 3 by the Australian. Miralles, in all, won 62 points during the match to 52 by Millman.

World No 49 Richard Gasquet, 34, France, beat World No 89 Marco Cecchinato, 28, Italy,in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 in first round winning 3 break points and 3 games in a row during the match Gasquet fired 9 Aces in the match to 5 by Cecchinato.

World No 52 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, 21, Spain, beat World No 76 Radu Albot, 31, Moldova, 6-4, 6-4 to reach the 2nd round of the event. Fokina won 4 break points during the match to 2 by Albot. The Spainiard won 3 games in a row to 2 by Albot.

World No 87 Emil Ruusuvuori, 21, Finland, beat World No 55 Jordan Thompson, 26, Australia, 6-3, 7-6 to advance to the 2nd round. Qualifier Ruusuvuori fired8 Aces in the match to 3 by Thompson. He won 3 break points to 2 by the Australian. Ruusuvouri, in all, won 80 points during the match to 67 points by Thompson.
