Ara : Bihar Ex-Servicemen Association (BESA) commemorated 100 years of the end of World War I at a function at Karisath railway station in Bhojpur district under Danapur division of East Central Railway (ECR), Hajipur, on November 11, 2018. Several serving and ex-army officers, villagers, journalists and social workers participated at the function and paid tributes to the Indian soldiers who fought in the First World War.
Addressing the gathering, Colonel V K Singh said that today we reiterate our commitment to world peace. He said after 1857 revolution that started from Shahabad, the Britishers lost confidence in the loyalty of the people of the area and did not want to induct persons from the area in their army but the bravery of the people forced them to recruit them in the army.
Singh said that about 1.5 lakh Indians had taken part in the WW-I of which 53 soldiers were from Karisath village alone and six of them became martyrs. Cornel V K Singh also inaugurated a tablet at the Karisath railway station commemorating the martyrs. He said that the DRM, Danapur, intends to provide all the facilities at Karisath railway station. Squadron leader B Singh, Commander Kameshwar Singh, Major Rana Pratap Singh were prominent among those addressing the function.
