Patna : Fourth seed Matteo Berrettini, 24, Italy, and 15th seed Grigor Dimitrov, 29, Bulgaria, advanced to the Italian Open 2020 quarter-finals on September 18, 2020.
Berrettini, who had reached US Open Round of 16 recently, beat Stefano Travaglia, 28, Italy, 7-6, 7-6 in a tough contest in Round of 16 at Foro Italico, Rome, Italy. Both the players won 2 break points each. Both of them also won 3 games each in a row. Berrettini won 80 points in the match to 72 by Travaglia. Unseeded Travaglia though fired 6 Aces in the match to 3 by Berrettini. Travaglia had defeated Borna Coric, Croatia, in second round. Berrettini had reached US Open SFs in 2019.
Dimitrov defeated giant killer Jannik Sinner, 19, Italy, in a three-set thriller 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in Round of 16 coming back from one set down. The Bulgarian won 4 break points to 3 by Sinner, who committed 4 double faults. The Bulgarian won 3 games in a row to 2 by the Italian. Dimitrov won 99 points in the match to 93 by Sinner.
