Berdych, Kerber enter quarterfinals of AO 2018

Patna : Number 19 Czech Tomas Berdych, 32, reached his 7th Australian Open (AO) quarterfinals on January 22, 2018, comfortably defeating dangerous Fabio Fognini, 30, Italy, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4, in the fourth round at Melbourne in AO 2018. It is Berdych’s 15th Australian Open appearance. He had reached the semi-finals of the tournament in 2015 and 2015. Berdych described Fognini, the Number 25 seed, as a tough opponent.

In the Women’s section, 2016 AO Champion and Number 21 seed Angelique Kerber, 30, Germany, reached the quarterfinals of AO 2018 on January 22, 2018, defeating Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Su-Wei in three sets 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, coming from behind. Hsieh Su-Wei is ranked 88th in the WTA rankings. Kerber, a former World Number 1,  will face Number 17 seed and 2017 US Open finalist Madison Keys, US, who  has entered quarterfinals after defeating 8th seed Caroline Garcia, France, 6-2, 6-3.
