Patna : Continuing her giant killing run, World No 45 in WTA rankings Belinda Bencic, 21, Switzerland, beat World No 4 Petra Kvitová, 28, Czech Republic, in three-sets in the final to lift the singles title at Dubai Tennis Championship, a Premier 5 event on WTA Tour, at Aviation Club Tennis Centre, Dubai, UAE, on February 23, 2019, night. This is her 3rd WTA singles title.
Bencic, a former Top 10 player, beat Kvitová, a two-time former Wimbledon Champion, 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 in the final. Both the players served 3 Aces each in the match. Bencic broke Kvitová’s service 5 times in the match while the latter broke her service 4 times. Kvitová committed 7 double faults to 4 by Bencic. Kvitová won 4 games in arrow in the match to 3 by Bencic.
Bencic had stunned World No 2 Simona Halep, 27, Romania, in the quarter-finals and World No 6 Elina Svitolina, 24, Ukraine, in the semi-finals en route final. Bencic had also defeated World No 9 Aryna Sabalenka, Belarus, in the Round of 16.
