Beiwen Zhang is India Open Badminton champion

Patna : Number 5 seed Beiwen Zhang, 27, USA, defeated Number 1 seed P V Sindhu, 22, India, in a three-set thriller 21- 18, 11-21, 22-20 in 69 minute at Siri Fort Spots Complex, New Delhi, to become the new India Open Badminton Champion. Sindhu, the defending champion and World Number 4, failed to retain her title.

Sindhu lost the first game at 18-21 but fought back to win the second 21-11. The third game went to wire but World Number 11 Zhang eventually prevailed 22-20. Their head to head record now stands 1-1. The India Open Badminton tournament is being held since 2008. Saina Nehwal, India, had won the tournament in 2010 and 2015 while Sindhu won it in 2017.
