BCI chairperson attacks Nitish Govt for plight of cane growers

Bagaha : Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman, Bar Council of India (BCI), and a voter of Valmikinagar parliamentary constituency in West Champaran district, is on a visit to the constituency to gauge the mood of voters. Mishra, during the visit of the area, expressed his concern over the  plight of farmers. He said the farmers are the backbone of our country but were virtually dancing to the tune of sugar industries in West Champaran district in North Bihar due to wrong policy of Bihar Government.

“Sugarcane is the only cash crop of the farmers in West Champaran and their whole economy depends on the sugar factories. The state government is yet to announce cane price for the new crushing season even as all the factories started cane crushing in first week of November 2018. The factories have not paid to the cane growers though it is mandatory for them to pay cane price to the growers within 15 days of cane supply. Let alone payment for the on going season, even their arrears of last season have not yet been cleared,” said Mishra.

The BCI chairman said the farmers  have produced paddy crop but forced to sell their produce at very low price to continue cultivation and to meet their household needs including tution fee of their wards, solemnising marriage of their daughters/sons and medicare of ill family members.The government also did not supply seeds for Rabi crops, he added.

Mishra alleged that the NDA Government had divided the society on caste and creed for political reasons. He said that the Ram Temple issue is being raised only during election period to divert people’s attentions from their real issue. Mishra had unsuccessfully contested from Valmikinagar in the last LS polls on Bahujan Samaj Party(BSP) ticket.
