Patna : World No 8 Ashleigh Barty, 23, Australia, and World No 38 Marketa Vondrousova, 19, Czech Republic, will clash in the women’s singles final of French Open, a clay court Grand Slam event, on June 8, 2019. Both the players have reached the final of a Grand Slam event for the first time.

Barty beat World No 51 Amanda Anisimova, 17, USA, in 6-7, 6-3, 6-3 coming from behind after losing the first set in tiebreak in the semi-finals at Roland Garros, Paris, France, on June 7, 2019.  Barty broke Amanda’s service 8 times in the match while the latter broke her service 5 times. Barty’s winning percentage both on her first and second serve ( 69 % 7 49 %) was higher than that of Anisimova ( 56% 7 38%). Barty won 7 games in a row in the match to 6 by Anisimova, who had defeated defending champion and World No 3 Simona Halep in the QFs..

After winning the first set, Anisimova had raced to 3-0 in the second set but Barty rallied back strongly to win the set breaking her service thrice. Barty completely dominated the third set too. Barty had reached the QFs of Australian Open in 2019.

Vondrousova beat World No 26 Johanna Konta, 28, UK, in straight sets 7-5, 7-6 in the semi-finals. She broke Konta’s service 4 times in the match while the Katter broke her service thrice. Vondrousova won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Konta. Vondrousova’s winning percentage both on her first and second serve (67% & 75 %) was much higher than that of Konta ( 56% & 62 %). Konta had reached SFs at Wimbledon in 2017 and Australian Open in 2016.
