Patna : Top seed & World No 1 Ashleigh Barty, 25, Australia; 2nd  seed Aryna Sabalenka, 23, Belarus; 7th seed Iga Swiatek, 20, Poland; 8th seed Barbora Krejcikova, 25, Czech Republic; and 10th seed Petra Kvitova, 31, Czech Republic, reached the women’s singles 3rd round of US Open on September 2, 2021.

Top seed Barty beat World No 78 Clara Tauson,  18, Denmark, 6-1, 7-5 in 2nd round. The Australian hammered 11 Aces during the match to 2 by Tauson. She also won 5 break points during the match to 2 by Tauson.  Barty, the reigning Wimbledon champion, also won 5 games in a row during the match to 2 by Tauson. The Australian, in all, won 83 points in the match to 57 by the Dane.

Second seed Sabalenka brushed aside World No 40 Tamara Zidansek, 23, Slovenia,  in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in 2nd round winning 4 break points and 5 games in a row during the match. The Belarusian won 60 points during the match to 32 by Zidansek.

Iga Swiatek, the 2020 French Open champion,  beat World No 74 Fiona Ferro, 24, France, in a three-set contest 3-6, 7-6, 6-0 in 2nd round. Swiatek won 6 break points during the match to 4 by Ferro. The POle won 7 games in a row during the match to 5 Ferro. Swiatek fired 7 Aces during the match to 2 by Ferro.

Krejcikova, the reigning French Open champion, drubbed World No 119 Christina McHale, 29, USA, 6-3, 6-1 in 2nd round. Krejcikova won 6 break points during the match to 2 by McHale. She also won 5 games in a row during the match to 2 by the American.

Kvitova, a two-time former Wimbledon champion ( 2011 & 2014), beat World No 115 Kristyna Pliskova, 29, Czech Republic, 7-6, 6-2 in 2nd round winning 2 break points and the tiebreak. Kvitova fired 9 Aces in the match to 8 by Kristyna.  Kvitova had reached US Open quarter-final in 2015 and 2017.
