Patna : Australian Open Champion and World No 4 Naomi Osaka, 21, Japan, beat US Open Champion and World No 6 Bianca Andreescu, 19, Canada, in a three-set slugfest lasting 2hr 14 minutes to enter the semi-finals of China Open, a WTA Premier Mandatory event, at Beijing, China, on October 4, 2019. Osaka beat Bianca 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in 2 hr 14 minutes battling back from one set down in the quarter-finals.

Osaka, the 4th seed, fired 10 Aces in the match to 1 by Bianca, the 5th seed. Osaka won 6 break points in the match to 5 by Bianca. The Japanese won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by the Canadian. Osaka also won 63 service points to 50 by the Canadian. Osaka, who had won US Open title in 2018, committed 5 double faults in the match to 4 by the Canadian. Osaka will face World No 19 and 2018 Australian Open Champion Caroline Wozniacki, 29, Denmark, in the semi-finals on October 5, 2019.

Wozniacki, the 16th seed,  entered the SFs defeating World No 45 Daria Kasatkina, 22, Russia, 6-3, 7-6 in in 1 hr 41 minutes to enter the SFs. Wozniacki won 5 break points in the match to 4 by the Russian. She also won 4 games in a row in the match to 3 by the Russian, who committed 6 double faults in the match.

Top seed and World No 1 Ashleigh Barty, 23, Australia, beat two-time former Wimbledon Champion and World No 7 Petra Kvitova, 29, Czech Repubic, in a three-set thriller 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 battling back from one set down. Barty served 9 Aces in the match to 5 by Kvitová, the 7th seed. She won 3 break points in the match to 2 by Kvitová. Both the players won 3 games each a row in the match.

World No 8 Kiki Bertens, 27, Netherlands, upset World No 3 Elina Svitolina, 25, Ukraine, 7-6, 6-2 in 1 hr 44 minutes to enter the SFs. Bertens won 3 break points to 1 by Svitolina. Bertens, the 8th seed,  will face Barty in the SFs on October 5. Bertens will face Barty in SFs on October 5.
