Patna : Top seed Ashleigh Barty, 23, Australia, beat defending champion and 8th seed Elina Svitolina, 25, Ukraine, in straight sets in the final to win the WTA Finals title at Shenzhen, China, on November 3, 2019. Barty beat Svitolina 6-4, 6-3 in 1hr 26 minutes at Shenzhen Bay Sports Centre to win the WTA Finals. World No 1 Barty had never beaten World No 8 Svitolina in five previous meetings.
Barty won 4 break points in the match to 2 by Svitolina. She won 3 games in a row to 2 by the Ukrainian. Barty won 39 service points to 35 by Svitolina. Barty’s winning percentage both on herv first and second serve (66% & 74%) was much higher than that of Svitolina ( 61% & 48%). Svitolina fired 2 Aces in the match to 1 by Barty, who had defeated 2nd seed Karolina Pliskova in the semi-finals 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the semi-finals on November 2, 2019. It was Barty’s debut at WTA Finals.
