Sitamarhi: Sitamarhi district registered less rainfall in last twelve hours on July 25, 2020, that gave some respite to the people and live- stocks. The rivers are either rising or stable in the district. All the major rivers Bagmati, Lalbakeya, Jhim, Hardi, Marar, Rato, Manushamara, the Adhawara Group and Lakhadei are flowing above danger marks at several places in the district.
Sonbarsa, Parihar, Bathanaha, Dumra, Choraut, Bhokhara, Riga, Suppi, Belsand, Runnisaidpur, and Bajpatti blocks are affected by the flood, which has caused damage to the standing paddy and vegetable crops. Three community kitchens are functional under Sonbarsa and Parihar blocks.
Sitamarhi-Sursand, Sitamarhi-Parihar, Sitamarhi- Sheohar, Sitamarhi-Suppi, Singrahia-Baduri, and Lagma-Bhasepur roads are not open for traffic as flood water has overtopped them causing a lot of hardships to passengers and daily commuters. DM Abhilasha Kumari Sharma said that constant vigil is underway on major embankments including that of Bagmati.
Meanwhile, a Vasantpur village resident under Runnisaidpur block Suman Kumari, 8, drowned in flood water on July 24, 2020, evening.
Bajpatti MLA Ranju Geeta, Riga MLA Amit Kumar Tunna, and Sanyukta Kisan Sangharsh Morch president Anand Kishore have demanded from the government compensation to the farmers.
