But, top seed Novak Djokovic, Serbia, 5th seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, 22, Greece, 7th seed Matteo Berrettini, 24, Italy, 10th seed Roberto Bautista Agut, Spain, 13th seed Andrey Rublev, Russia, and 17th seed Pablo Carreno Busta, Spain, advanced to the third round.
Roberto Carballes Badena beat Shapovalov, who had reached US Open QFs recently, in a five-set marathon 7-5, 6-7, 6-3, 3-6, 8-6 in second round winning 8 break points to 6 by the latter.
