Patna : World No 143 Matthias Bachinger, 31, Germany, a qualifier, upset World No 26 Fernando Verdasco, 35, Spain, in the Round of 16 of Open 13 Provence, an ATP World Tour 250 points tennis tournament played at Marseille, France. Bachinger beat Verdasco 6-4, 6-3 in 1 hr 16 minutes to sail into the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Both the players fired 6 Aces each in the match. Bachinger, however, broke Verdasco’s service thrice. Verdasco broke Bachinger’s service once. Verdasco committed 3 double faults to 1 by Bachinger. Bachinger won 5 games in a row to 3 by Verdasco.

Top seed and World No 12 Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, also entered the quarter-finals on February 20, 2019, night, beating World No 78 Hubert Hurkacz, 22, Poland, 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 16. Tsitsipas broke Hurkacz’s service thrice in the match. Hurkacz fired 5 Aces to 2 by Tsitsipas, who won 4 games in a row.

World No 32 Gilles Simon, 34, France, also moved into the QFs on February 21, 2019, beating World No 60 Peter Gojowczyk, 29, Germany, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the Round of 16. Simon fired 15 Aces in the match to 5 by Gojowczyk. Simon broke Gojowczyk’s service thrice. Gojowczyk also broke his service once.
