Patna : World No 15 Kidambi Srikanth, 28, India, and World No 19 Lakshya Sen, 20, India, won their respective Group stage matches at season-ending HSBC BWF World Tour Finals at Bali, Indonesia, on December 1, 2021.
Lakshya Sen making his maiden appearance at season ending HSBCBWF Finals won on walkover in a Group stage match after his opponent and World No 1 Kento Momota, 27, Japan, retired in the third game of the match. Sen is likely to reach semi-finals as Rasmus Gemke, Denmark, and Momota, Japan, are unlikely to play their remaini ng mathes. Gemke retired after 6 points in his Group stage match against Olympic Champion and compatriot Viktor Axelsem 27. Axelsen, who recently won the Indonesia Open title, was leading 5-1, when Gemke retired.
Srikatnth defeated World No 33 Toma Junior Popov, 23, France, in straight games 21-14, 21-16 in 42 minutes in a Group stage match. Srikanth won 42 points during the match to 30 points by Popov. The India won 5 consecutive points in the match to 4 by the Frenchman. Srikanth will face World No 21 Kunlavut Vitidsaran, 20, Thailand, on December 2, 2021.
