Patna : Australia crushed England by a massive 275 runs in 2nd test at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, Australia, on day 5 on December 20, 2021, to take a 2-0 lead in the five-match Ashes Series. Chasing a target of 468 runs, England were all out for just 192 runs in 113.1 overs as fast bowler Jhye Richardson took 5/42 in 19.1 overs while fellow fast bowler Mitchell Starc took 2/43 in 27 overs. Spinner Nathan Lyon took 2/55 in 39 overs while fast medium bowler Michael Neser took 1/28.
Australian batter Marnus Labuschagne was named Player Of The Match. The only consolation for England was that they took the match to 3rd session of the play on day 5. Resuming at their overnight score of 82/4, England lost their 5th wicket that of Ollie Pope ( 4) at 86 and 6th wicket ( all-rounder Ben Stokes) at 105, Jos Buttler ( wk) and fast bowler Chris Woakes, however, added 61 runs for the 7th wicket.
Woakes fell to Jhye Richardson for 44 runs with 7 fours. Ollie Robinson fell to Nagthan Lyon for 8 runs and it was 178/8. Buttler fell to Jhye Richardson for a dogged 26 in 207 balls with only 2 fours and it was 182/9. James Anderson also fell to Jhye Richardson for 2 and England were all out for 192. England had scored 236 runs in 84.1 overs in their 1st innings. Australia had declared their 1st innings at 473/9 and 2nd innings at 230/9.
