Patna : Australia declared their second innings at 217/9 in 69.1 overs in the first session of play on Day 4 in the first test against New Zealand (NZ) at Perth Stadium, Perth, Australia, on December 15, 2019, taking a lead of 467 runs. Resuming at their overnight score of 167/6, Australia added 50 runs to their total losing three wickets. NZ, who were all out for 166 runs in their first innings,  are 5/0 after 4 overs in second innings.

NZ medium fast bowler Tim Southee, who had taken 4/93 in Australia’s first innings, took 5/69 in 21.1 over the second innings. Fast medium bowler Neil Wagner, who had taken 4/92 in first innings, took 3/59 in second innings. All-rounder Colin de Grandhomme took one wicket.

Australia lost their 7th wicket at 180 when fast bowler pat Cummins fell to Wagner for 13. Matthew Wade fell to Grandhomme for 17 in 52 balls with 4 fours and it was 189/8. Mitchell Starc fell to Southee for 23 in 21 balls with 4 fours making it 217/9. Starc added 28 runs with Nathan Lyon for 9th wicket.
