Patna : Australia defeated West Indies (WI) by 15 runs in a close contest in the 10th match of ICC World Cup at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, UK, on June 6, 2019, night, with fast bowlers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins taking five and two wickets respectively. WI lost the match as its two star players : Chris Gayle and Andre Russel, could not make any significant contribution with bat. Both Gayle (21) and Russel (15) fell to Starc, who took 5/46 in 10 overs. Replying to Australia’s 288 all out, WI finished at 273/9 in 50 overs. WI had won the toss and opted to bowl.

Nathan Coulter-Nile, who scored 92 in 60 balls with 8 fours and 4 sixes digging Australia out of a difficult situation, was declared Player of the Match. Steven Smith scored 73 in 103 balls.

Shai Hope (wk) was the top scorer for WI with 68 in 105 balls with 7 fours while Captain Jason Holder scored 51 in 57 balls with 7 fours and a six. Nicholas Pooran made 40 in 36 balls with 5 fours and a six while Shimron Hetmyer was run out for 21 with 3 fours. Spinner Ashley Nurse remained unbeaten on 19 in 18 balls hitting 4 consecutive fours in the last over bowled by Nathan Coulter-Nile. Fast bowlere Carlos Brathwaite scored 16 in 17 balls with a four and a six.

Pat Cummins took 2/41 in 10 overs while spinner Adam Zampa took 1/58 in 10 overs.
