Patna : Australia entered the final of ICC T20 World Cup on November 11, 2021, late night, defeating Pakistan by 5 wickets as Matthew Wade (wk) hit fast bowler Shaheen Afridi for three sixes on successive balls in 19th over to remain unbeaten on 41 runs in 17 balls hitting 2 fours and 4 sixes. All-rounder Marcus Stoinis remained unbeaten on 40 runs in 31 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Stoinis and Wade added 81 runs in their unbroken partnership for 6th wicket.

Opener David Warner fell to spinner Shadab Khan for 49 in 30 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. Australia had won the toss and opted to bowl. Matthew Wade was named Player Of The Match.

Chasing a target of 177 runs, Australia scored 177/5 in 19 overs with fast bowler Shaheen Afridi conceding 22 runs including 3 sixes in last over.  Australia needed to score 22 runs in last two overs but they scored the required runs in only one over.. Chasing the target, Australia had suffered a major blow captain Aaron Finch ( opener) fell to Shaheen Afridi on the third ball of first over.making it 1/1.

All-rounder Mitchell Marsh and Warner then added 51 runs for the 2nd wicket. Marsh fell to spinner Shadab Khan for 28 in 22 balls with 3 fours and 1 six making it 52/2. Steven Smith fell to Shadab Khan for 5 making it 77/3.David Warner fell to Shadab Khan for 49 and it was 89/4. Glenn Maxwell also fell to Shadab Khan for 7 and it was 96/5.

Earlier batting first, Pakistan had scored 176/4 in 20 overs with opener Mohd Rizwan scoring 67 runs in 52 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes while Fakhar Zaman remained unbeaten on 55 in 32 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes, Captain Babar Azam scored 39 runs in 34 balls with 5 fours.
