Patna : Australia beat India by 3 wickets in the 1st T20I at Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Stadium, Visakhapatnam, hitting the winning runs on the last ball of the 20th over. Australia have taken 1-0 lead in the 2-match T20I series. The only consolation for India was that they took the match to wire despite scoring a modest 126/7. Australia were required to score 14 runs inn the 20th over and their fast bowler Pat Cummins and Jhye Richardson did the job for them. Nathan Coulter Nile was named Player of the Match.

Chasing a target of 127, Australia scored 127/7 in 20 overs with Glen Maxwell scoring 56 in 43 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes while opener D Arcy Short scored 37 in 37 balls with 5 fours. Captain Aaron Finch fell to fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah for zero. Bumrah took 2 wickets that of Peter Handscomb and Nathan Coulter Nile on successive balls in the 19th over, his 4th over. Marcus Stoinis was run out for 1 while Ashton Turner fell to Krunal Pandya for zero.

For India, Bumrah took 3/16 in 4 overs while spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Krunal Pandya took one wicket each. Bumrah bowled at a brutal pace in his first over touching 145 kmph.

Earlier, asked to bat first, India scored 126/7 with opener Lokesh Rahul scoring 50 in 36 balls with 6 fours and a six and captain Virat Kohli scoring 24 in 17 balls with 3 fours. Rohit Sharma fell to Jason Behrendorff for 5. Wicketkeeper M S Dhoni remained unbeaten on 29 in 37 balls with a six. For Australia, Nathan Coulter Nile took 3/26 in 4 overs.
