Patna : Electing to bat after winning the toss, Australia scored a competitive 271 runs in 50 overs in the 2nd ODI against South Africa (SA) at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein, SA, on March 4, 2020, night, as Lungisani Ngidi took 6/58 in 10 overs, his first 6 wicket haul in ODIs, while Anrich Nortje took 2/59 in 10 overs. Fast bowler Makhaya Ntini’s 6/22 in 2006 is the best bowling figure by a South African bowler against Australia in ODIs. SA dropped 4 catches and missed 2 run out chances in the match.

Australia could score just 29 runs in last five overs losing four wickets. Nigidi took two wickets in his 10th over. He also took two wickets in the powerplay. Nortje, who bowled at a brutal pace at times exceeding 149 kmph, also took a wicket in his last over.

Australia failed to build on a good start. Openers David Warner and Aaron Finch added 50 runs for the first wicket. Warner fell to Lungi Ngidi for 35 in 23 balls hitting 4 fours and a six. Steven Smith fell to Ngidi for 13 making it 81/2. Marnus Labuschagne also fell to Ngidi for a duck and it was 81/3. Finch fell to Anrich Nortje for 69 in 87 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes and it was 158/4. D Arcy Short fell to spinner Tabraiz Shamsi for 69 in 83 balls with 5 fours making it 224/5. Finch and Shorth added 77 runs for the 4th wicket.

Short and Mitchell Marsh added 66 runs for the 5th wicket. Marsh fell to Andile Phehlukwayo for 36 in 45 balls with 3 fours making it 238/6. Spinner Ashton Agar fell to Ngidi for 9 making it 257/7. Alex Carey (wk) also fell to Ngidi for 21 and it was 263/8. Pat Cummins too fell to Ngidi for 6 making it 266/9. Mitchell Starc fell to Nortje for 3 and Australia were all out for 271..
