Patna : Chasing a target of 323 runs, Australia were 62/3 in 25 overs in their second innings in the third session of the play on day 4 against India in the first test at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide, on December 9, 2018, with Shaun Marsh batting on 12 and Peter Handscomb batting on 2. Australia need to score 261 uns more to win the test.

Opener Aaron Finch fell to spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for 11 while Marcus Harris fell to Mohammad Shami for 26. Harris had scored 26 in first innings too. Usman Khwaja also fell to Ashwin for 8 in 42 balls.

Earlier resuming at their overnight score of 151/3, India were all out for 307 in 106.5 overs in their second innings with Cheteshwar Pujara scoring 71 and Ajinkya Rahane scoring 70. Pujara and Rahane added 87 runs for the fourth wicket. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant scored 28 in 16 balls with 4 fours and a six while Rohit Sharma fell to spinner Nathan Lyon for just 1 run. Lyon had also accounted for captain Virat Kohli on December 8. Ashwin scored 5. Both Ishant Sharma and Shami were out for duck.

For Australia, Nathan Lyon took 6/122 while fast bowler Mitchell Starc took 3/40. Josh Hazlewood took 1/43.
