Patna : Replying to England’s first innings total of 403, Australia were 549/4 in 152 overs at stumps in the third Ashes test at WACA Ground, Perth, Australia, on the third day on December 16, 2017, with Australian Captain Steven Smith batting on a magnificent 229 in 390 balls hitting 28 fours and a six and all rounder Mitchell Marsh batting on an explosive 181 in 234 deliveries hitting 29 fours stitching a partnership of 301 run.
It was Mitchell Marsh’s maiden test century while it was second double century for Smith in his test career. Australia are in complete control of the third Ashes test having already taken a lead of 146 run with six wickets still in hands.
It was Smith’s 22nd test century, the second in the on going Ashes series. Shaun Marsh’s wicket was the only Australian wicket to fall on the day taken by spinner Moen Ali. Shaun Marsh was out for 22. Australia scored 346 run on the third day for the loss of just one wicket.
