Patna : Australia were 384/4 at stumps on day 1 in their first innings in the 2nd test against Sri Lanka (SL) at Manuka Oval, Canberra, Australia, on February 1, 2019, with Travis Head, 25, scoring 161 runs in 204 balls with 21 fours and a six, his first test ton, and opener Joe Burns, 29, an unbeaten 172 in 243 balls with 26 fours, his 4th test century, surpassing his previous best of 170 runs against New Zealand in 2016.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, Australia lost their first three wickets that of opener Marcus Harris (4), Usman Khwaja (0), and Marnus Labuschagne (6) for 28 runs only. Australia were in deep trouble at 28/3. But, Travis Head and Joe Burns added a massive 308 runs for the 4th wicket to bring Australia back into commanding position.

For Sri Lanka, fast bowler Vishwa Fernando, 27, took 3/99 in 20 overs while Chamika Karunaratne took 1/87 in 14 overs. Australia lead the two-test series 1-0.
