Patna : Opting to bat after winning the toss, Australia were 277/6 in 90 overs in their first innings at stumps on day 1 in the second test against India at Perth Stadium, Perth, Australia, on December 14, 2018, riding on a 112 run partnership for the first wickets by openers Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch who scored 70 and 50 runs respectively and 58 by Travis Head. Shaun Marsh scored 45 while Usman Khwaja scored 5. At stumps, captain and wicketkeeper Tim Paine was batting on 16 while fast bowler Pat Cummins was batting on 11.

Marsh added 84 runs with Travis Head for the fifth wicket. Peter Handscomb made 7. Marcus Harris hit 10 fours in his 141 balls 70 while Aaron Finch scored 50 in 105 balls with 6 fours. Shaun Marsh hit 6 fours in his 45 in 98 balls while Travis Head hit 6 fours while scoring 58 in 80 balls.

For India, Ishant Sharma took 2/35 while part-time spinner Hanuma Vihari took 2/53. Vihari took the wickets of Harris and Shaun Marsh while Ishant Sharma accounted for Peter Handscomb and Travis Head. Jasprit Bumrah took the wicket of Finch while Umesh Yadav accounted for Khwaja.
