Patna : Australia were 244/3 in 89 overs against England at stumps on the first day of 4th Ashes Test at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Melbourne, on December 26, 2017, with Capain Steven Smith unbeaten on 65 in 131 balls hitting 6 fours and Shaun Marsh unbeaten on 31 in 93 balls hitting 4 fours.

Opener David Warner scored a brilliant 103 in 151 balls hitting 13 fours and a six while his partner C T Bancroft wasout for 26. Usman Khwaja made 17. Australia won the toss and elected to bat. The first Australian wicket fell on 122. Altogether 88,172 people were watching the match on day one.

For England, James Anderson had taken 1/43 in 21 overs and Stuard Broad 1/41 in 19 overs. Chris Woakes had taken 1/60 in 19 overs. Australia lead the five-match Ashes series 3-0.
