Patna : Australia were 133/6 in their 2nd innings at stumps on Day 3 in the 2nd test against India at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, Australia, on December 28, 2020, as all-rounder Cameron Green and fast bowler Pat Cummins added 34 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 7th wicket to avoid innings defeat which looked a possibility when they lost their 6th wicket that of captain Tim Paine (wk) with only 99 runs on board. Australia, who had scored 195 runs in their first innings, lead by just 2 runs with 4 wickets in hand.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 277/5, India were all out for 326 runs in their first innings. Captain Ajinkya Rahane was run out for 112 in 223 balls with 12 fours while all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored 57 runs in 159 balls with 3 fours. Spinner Ravichandran Ashwin scored 14 runs while fast bowler Umesh Yadav scored 9. Fsst bowler Jasprit Bumrah was out for a duck. India added 49 runs to their overnight score in the first session of play on Day 3.

Spinner Nathan Lyon took 3/72 while fast bowler Mitchell Starc took 3/78. Pat Cummins took 2/80 and Josh Hazlewood 1/47.I

Australia, staring at defeat, lost their first wicket in 2nd innings with only 4 runs on board. Opener Burns fell to  fast bowler Umesh Yadav for 4. Incidentally, Yadav could bowl only 3.3 overs in 2nd innings on Day 3 as he had to leave the field due to injury making India one bowler short on a flat wicket. Marnus Labuschagne fell to RavichandrarAshwin for 28 in 49 balls with 1 four making it 42/2.

Steven Smith was bowled by Jasprit Bumrah for 8and it was 71/3. Smith’s poor form continues. He has scored 1 & 1 not in 1st test and  0 & 8 in 2nd test.

Opener Matthew Wade fell to spinner Ravindra Jadeja for 40 in 137 balls with 3 fours and it was 98/4. Travis Head fell to Mohd Siraj for 17 making it 98/5. Captain Tim Paine fell to Jadeja for 1 and it was 99/6.
