Motihari :  East Champaran DM  Shirshat Kapil Ashok, after making an on the spot inquiry into attack by a furious mob on  Primary Health Centre (PHC) and Police Station  at Chiraiya under Sikarahna Sub-Division, directed the police officials  to  arrest  all the accused. An irate mob had ransacked and vandalised the PHC and Police Station, Chiraiya, on August 16, 2020, late night, after death of a man in an accident.

According to  police sources, 66  persons who indulged  in violence at Chiraiya police station have been identified by the police through CCTV  footage  and 46 of them have been arrested while raids are on to nab the remaining 20 persons.  They are evading
arrest and have left Chiraiya after the incident.

It may be recalled here that an  irate mob had attacked the PHC  and Police station  at Chiraiya on August 16, 2020, late night, to protest the death of one Deepak Kumar in a road accident near Nirpur  on Dhaka-Motihari road under Chiraiya  police station area.                  SHO, Chiraiya police station, Indrajit Paswan, has lodged an FIR  against 70  named accused  and 400 unknown  persons in connection with attack on the PHC and Police Station. Paswan, in his  written  statement, alleged that the attack was pre-planned  and the  rowdy
elements had even tried  to set him afire  but he managed to escape.They also tried  to snatch the arms of  police personnel forcing police
fire 10 rounds fire  in the air to disperse the mob, he said.

The SHO claimed the miscreants also  opened fire on policemen.  The motorcycle of  a police constable  Rohit Kumar was set ablaze on the road after taking it away from the police station, the SHO said and added that six vehicles were  set afire by the mob.

Dr  Shyam Paswan, Incharge, Chiraiya PHC,  said that  the mob broke open the doors of the PHC  and manhandled the para- medical staff. They ransacked the health centre  and damaged medical equipment worth  Rs 10 lakh. The para-medical staff of the PHC  had proceeded on on strike  on  August 17, 2020, but  after the visit of the  DM to Chiraiya they  called off  their strike.

The DM has asked the  Medical officer to prepare the inventory  of damaged  equipment.  Armed policemen have been deployed  at the PHC  for the security of  medical staff..
