Ara : Over 500 Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) and Mamata workers on December 11, 2018, took out a procession from Ara Ramana Maidan that passed through the main thoroughfares of the town and culminated at the gate of Bhojpur District Magistrate office on the 11th day of their indefinite strike to press their 12 point demands. They raised slogans against  CM Nitish Kumar and Bhojpur district administration. They also staged a day long dharana in front of the office of the Bhojpur DM.

Health services under all the 14 blocks in Bhojpur district have remained affected as the Asha and Mamata workers are on indefinite strike under the banner of ‘The Asha Sangharsh Samiti.’ Their main demands include remuneration up to Rs 18,000, status of a government employee, and better working condition.

Speaking on the occasion, Indu Singh, district secretary, All India Progressive Woman Association (AIPA), said that the government is spending crores of rupees on the salary of the MLAs, MLCs, and MPs but has indifferent to the plight of Asha and Mamata workers. She said Bihar is leading in health sector due to hard work of Asha and Mamata. .
