Arrested Chakand SHO escapes from police custody

Gaya : In a sensational incident, SHO, Chakand police station in Gaya district Pawan Kumar, who was arrested on May 19, 2018, morning for taking bribe to release four liquor smugglers, escaped from police custody around 7 pm the same day.

Gaya SSP Rajiv Mishra while confirming that the arrested SHO Pawan Kumar had escaped from police custody said that raids were on to arrest him at the earliest. SSP Mishra, however, said that it would be too early to conclude that Pawan Kumar escaped from police custody in connivance with the police personnel of Chakand police station. ” There could be lapses on their part,” the SSP said adding an inquiry is going on into the circumstances leading to his escape from police custody.

SHO Pawan had conducted raid at Gunnubigha under Chakand police station on May 18, 2018, late night, and arrested four persons including two locals besides driver and helper of the SUV used for smuggling liquor. All the four persons were brought over to Chakand police station where a Rs 3 lakh deal was struck between him and smugglers after which he agreed to release them. The two locals – father -son duo, were released immediately while the driver and his helper remained in custody. Police arrested Pawan Kumar with Rs 1.16 lakh bribe money.

The  Gaya SSP, a 2010 batch IPS officer, said that of the two locals released by the SHO, one has been arrested in a drunken state while his son is at large.
