Ara: Some unidentified criminals shot at and injured Deputy Mayor, Ara Municipal Corporation (AMC), Basant Singh in the wee hour on Thursday when he was on morning walk and escaped. Later, he was admitted to the clinic of Dr Bikas Singh. A named FIR has been lodged with the police on the statement of Basant Singh and the police have taken two persons into custody for interrogation.
Bhojpur SP Kshtranil Singh said that some poor families were living on a piece of government land but some influential persons of the area were trying to remove them. Deputy Mayor, AMC, Basant Singh had mediated and tried to settle the matter on Wednesday that did not suit those who were interested in that plot. On Thursday, when he was on morning walk, some armed miscreants shot at and injured him. The SP said an SIT has been formed under the ASP (operations) Md. Sajid and added that the police had got some clue about the main accused and hoped they would be nabbed very soon.
