Ara Court sentences man to rigorous life imprisonment for killing wife

Ara : Additional District and Sessions Judge XV, Ara, Suresh Singh, on December 6, 2019, sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment Milendra Kumar for killing his wife. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him. Milendra Kumar is a constable in Bihar police and is a resident of Bihata village under Imadpur police station in Bhojpur district.

Public Prosecutor Nageshwar Dubey said that Priti Kumari of Godhana Road under Nawada police station, Ara, was married to Milendra Kumar of Bihata village under Imadpur police station in Bhojpur district on June 21, 2003. Milendra Kumar quarrelled with her even on trivial issues ever since their marriage. On May 5, 2012, he sprinkled kerosene oil on her and set her ablaze. She was admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital but the doctors referred her to Patna Medical College and Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. A named FIR was lodged with Imadpur police station on the statement of the deceased recorded at Ara Sadar Hospital against Milendra Kumar.

Hearing both the parties, ADJ XV Suresh Singh found Milendra Kumar guilty of killing his wife and attempt to erase evidence and awarded rigorous life imprisonment to him and also slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on him. Milendra Kumar got service in Bihar police on compassionate ground after the death of his father and was posted in Banka district.
