Ara : Additional District and Sessions Judge, IV, Ara, Tribhuwan Yadav, on NOvember 6, 2020, sentenced to life imprisonment to two persons : Jagdishpur Nagar Panchayat Chairman Mukesh Kumar alias Guddu and Chunnu Mahto, in murder case of an RTI activist. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on Mukesh Kumar and Rs 7,000 on Chunnu Mahto.
The court had convicted Mukesh Kumar alias Guddu and Chunnu Mahato on November 5, 2020. The court found Chunnu Mahto guilty of murdering Mrityunjay Singh and Mukesh Kumar alias Guddu of instigating him.
The APP said that an RTI activist Mrityunjay Singh was shot dead near Badi Masjid at Mangtari Chowk under Jagdishpur police station in Bhojpur district on June 9, 2016, and an FIR was lodged with the police against four persons, Mukesh Kumar alias Guddu, Chunnu Mahto, Vasu Kuma, and Md Saddam on the statement of younger brother of the deceased Markandey Singh and police filed charge-sheet against three persons. During hearing, the court found Mukesh Kumar alias Guddu and Chunnu Mahto guilty and awarded life imprisonment to them and also slapped fine on them. The third accused Vasu Kumar is absconding since the murder.
