Buxar : Thirty-five shops located on the campus of Brahmeshwar Nath temple in Buxar District in South Bihar were set ablaze around November 6, 2020, by some anti- social elements after a fight with the temple priests in the same evening.
Some anti-social elements reached the Bhrahmeshwar Nath temple under Brahmpur police station in Buxar District in the evening on November 6, 2020, and quarelled with the priests there but they fled away when the priests protested. On getting information, police reached the spot and camped there for some hours. Police left the place when the situation seemed normal.
As the police left the spot, at least 35 shops located on the temple campus of the temple caught fire around midnight and properties worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed. The fire brigade was summoned and the fire was extinguished. After the incident, Brahmpur police rushed to the spot and are camping there.
Meanwhile, hundreds of shop owners blocked Ara-Buxar main road near Barmeshwar Nath temple near Brahmpur police station since morning on November 7, 2020, paralysing the movement of vehicles. They burnt tyres on road and raised slogans against the District Administration. The shop owners said that the shops were set ablaze due to laxity on the part of the Brahmpur police station. They said that the anti-social elements dealt in liquor and ganja around the temple campus and the priests always protested it. They stated that after the clash, police reached the spot but returned after some time.
Some people of area alleged that the drug peddlers who had clashed with the priests and went on rampage are often seen with the Brahmpur police personnel. Dumraon SDO and SDPO rushed to the spot but road blockade had not been lifted till the filing of this report.
