Patna : Top seed and World No 6 in ATP rankings Kevin Anderson, 31, South Africa, and World No 30 Gilles Simon, 34, France, entered the semi-finals (SF) of Tata Open Maharashtra, an ATP 250 point event,  at Pune on January 3, 2019.

Anderson beat World No 81 Jaume Munar, 21, Spain, 6-3, 6-3 in the quarter-finals. Anderson hammered 14 Aces in the match to 3 by Munar, the fast rising tennis player from Spain. Both the players committed one double fault each. Anderson won 4 break points while Munar won just one. Anderson also won 5 games in a row in the match to 2 by Munar.

Simon, the 3rd seed, beat World No 52 Benoit Paire, 29, France, in a three-set encounter 3-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the quarter-finals. Paire, the 5th seed, fired 11 Aces in the match to 4 by Simon. But, Paire committed 12 double faults as well to 4 by Simon. Both the players won 3 break points each. Paire won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Simon.
