Patna : R Balki directorial ‘Padman’ starring superstar Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte, and Sonam Kapoor, has completed its first week run at the box office (BO) doing a business of Rs 64 crore in India. Made on a budget of Rs 70 crore, ‘Padman’, which deals with menstrual hygiene, was released on 2,750 screens across the country. Apart from domestic business, the film has also done a business of around Rs 25 crore abroad.
The first week business of ‘Padman’ is considered very good by trade analysts considering the stiff competition it is facing from Sanjay Leela Bhanshali’s superhit ‘Padmaavat’ starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor,which has completed its third week at the box office doing a business of Rs 265 crore.
‘Padmaavat’ was released on January 25, 2018, while ‘Padman’, produced by Twinkle Khanna, was released on February 9, 2018. Padman is based on real life story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, Tamilnadu, who developed a machine for producing low cost sanitary napkins. From February 16, ‘Padman will also face competition from Neeraj Pandey’s ‘Aiyarry’ starring Siddharth Malhotra and Manoj Vajpayee.
