Patna : World No 68 Ajay Jayarama, 32, India, lost to World No 32 & three-time former Junior World Champion Konlavut Vitidsarn, 18, Thailand, in straight games in semi-finals of Barcelona Spain Masters 202, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 Badminton Tournament at Barcelona, Spain, on February 22, 2020, night.
Konlavut beat Ajay Jayarama 22-20, 21-12 in 39 minutes in semi-finals. Jayaram put up strong fight in the first game but Kunlavut was all over him in the second game. Kunlavut won 43 rallies in the match to 32 by Ajay. the Thai won 4 consecutive points in the match to 5 by Ajay. It was first meeting between the two players.
Ajay Jayaram will get 4,900 BWF Rankings points for reaching the SFs of the tournament. World No 30 Sameer Verma, India, who lost in the QFs on February 21, 2020, to Konlavut, will get 3,850 points. It should improve the rankings of both the players when BWF Rankings are released next week.
Kunlavut will face Top seed & World N0. 5 Viktor Axelsen, 26, Denmark, in final on February 23, 2020. Former World Champion Axelsen defeated World No 42 Liew Daren, 32, Malaysia, 21-10, 21-19 in 42 minutes in semi-finals on February 22, 2020. The winner of the singles title will get 7,000 Rankings Points while the runner-up will get 5,950 points.
