Patna : Union Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs, S S Ahluwalia visited ICAR Research Complex for Eastern Region, Patna, on January 2, 2017. Ahluwalia, in his address, urged the scientists of ICAR to initiate target oriented work strictly adhering to time frame.

He urged the scientists to keep in mind while formulating research projects the three hurdles in agricultural development: population pressure, shrinkage of cultivable land and global warming. ICAR Research Complex being a nodal institute of Second Green Revolution in eastern states, he stressed on the need to work for the poor farmers of all the eastern states keeping in view their economic status and nutritional needs.

Ahluwalia also expressed his concern over damage to crop by Blue Bulls and pleaded for corrective measures keeping in view the socio-cultural-religious issues associated with it. He desired that students should be attracted to agriculture through their visits to the research institutions. He also visited the experimental farm and animalshed and interacted with the scientists about the ongoing research programme of the institute. He lauded the integrated farming system models developed by the institute and said such models are need of the hour for all eastern states where farmers are facing natural calamities. He stressed on the need for research efforts on Snell farming and Emu farming for supply of low cost protein, according to a PIB release.
