Patna : Noted actor Padma Shri Sridevi, who became a Bollywood superstar with her Hindi film ‘Himmatwala’ opposite Jeetendra, passed away at Dubai, UAE, late February 24, 2018, night, due to cardiac arrest shocking the entire nation. She was 54. Her husband and top film producer Boney Kapoor and her younger daughter Khushi Kapoor were with her at the time of her death. They had gone to Dubai to attend a wedding ceremony of a relative and she looked fine at the ceremony. The news of her death was confirmed by her brother-in-law Sanjay Kapoor.

Prime Miniter Narendra Modi on February 25, 2018, expressed grief on the sudden demise of actor Sridevi.  The PM, according to a PIB release, said, “Saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances. My thoughts are with her family and admirers in this hour of grief. May her soul rest in peace.”

Sridevi had worked in Tamil, Telugu, Malyalam, and Kannad films before making her debut in Hindi film with ‘ Solwan Sawan’ in 1978. She was  last seen in Hindi film ‘Mom’ in 2017. Her original name was Shree Amma Yanger Ayyapan and her father was a lawyer.

‘Sadma’, ‘Chandni’, Lamhe, ‘Mr India’, ‘Tohfa’, ‘Nagina’, Chaalbaaz’, ‘ Judai’,  and ‘Gumrah’ were some of her famous films. Sridevi starred in several hit films with Jeetendra including ‘ Himmatwala’, ‘Mawali’. and ‘Tohfa’. She was a very good dancer too. She also starred opposite Amitabh Bachan in a few films besides Rishi Kapoor.
