Abrogation of Article 370 biggest achievement of Modi Government : Dr Singh

New Delhi : Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Development of North-Eastern Region, and MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh on September 10, 2019, said that abrogation of Article 370 is the biggest achievement of Government under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi in the first 100 days of its second term which is being rejoiced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Listing the bold initiatives taken by the Government in last 100 days at a press conference at Jammu, Dr Singh said that the government is aware of the challenges facing the country and is determined to overcome these challenges by taking bold initiatives. Listing in detail the key decisions taken by the Government, Dr Singh said that the government has taken several historic and  landmark decisions at an unparalleled scale. He said that India is touching new heights in space technology and the feats of ISRO scientists and engineers in these years would be a stepping stone towards further success.

The Minister while highlighting the key decisions of Modi government, said that the abrogation of Article 370 will help in the industrial growth, employment generation and bettering healthcare system in the state. He said that the International Organizations and many world Leaders like Britain, France, US, Russia were unanimous in their support of India’s move and its sovereign right to do so.

Replying to a question, the minister said that there is no question of regional disparity under the present dispensation and the government is committed to ensure equitable development of both the newly made Union territories. He said that Kashmir is free from restrictions and the movement of people is going on without any hindrance and situation is fast returning to normal. He further added that this is the last phase of militancy in Kashmir, according to a PIB release.

He said that government has taken some significant decisions for making India a $5 trillion economy and largescale investments in infrastructure and social sector are being encouraged to realise this dream. The minister said that despite stiff opposition, the legislation against Triple Talaq has demonstrated the government’s commitment to restoring the honour and dignity of Muslim women. He added that the legislation is a strong step towards protecting and empowering Muslim women by ensuring gender justice as enshrined in the Constitution of India.

Dr Singh also spoke about the reduction of physical interference and transparency in GST and IT return filing process; Jal Shakti Abhiyaan; Har Ghar Bijli Yojna; Ujjwala Yojna; Ayushman Bharat; social sector protection to unorganised sector workers and small traders; financial assistance to farmers – the largest of its kind in the world; Fit India and campaign against ending menace of single use of plastics; measures of good governance; action against corrupt government officers and other important decisions taken by the government.

He also highlighted the landmark legislation for the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Amendment) Bill, 2019, that provides death penalty for the sexual assault on children. He said that the government has tried to uplift marginalised sections  by providing an income support of Rs 6,000 to every farmer and extended Pension Schemes to laborers, small traders and farmers. He also said that strict action is being taken against terrorism at all fronts and the government has enacted certain strict laws like ‘’The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment Act’-2019 in this regard.

The Minister also inaugurated an exhibition on ‘Furthering India’s Development -100 days of bold initiatives and decisive actions’ organised by Regional Outreach Bureau (ROB), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of  India.
