Bhojpur CS forms committee to probe into pregnant woman’s death

Ara: Bhojpur Civil Surgeon (CS) Dr S K Aman on Thursday constituted an inquiry committee comprising Dr  K N Sinha, Dr Arun, Dr Ravi Ranjan and Dr Madhubala to inquire into the causes of death of a pregnant woman  on the operation table on Wednesday afternoon at Ara Sadar Hospital. He has asked the committee to submit its report within 24 hours. The CS said stern action would be taken if any dereliction was detected by the inquiry committee on the part of lady doctor concerned in the treatment of the patient.

Jugrani Devi, 32 wife of Karpuri Sharma of Bhaluhipur locality under Town police station, Ara, was admitted to Ara Sadar Hospital for delivery on Wednesday. Dr Arti Kumari attended her and when she complained of labour pain, the doctor took her to operation theatre where the doctor administered her an ,injection. As the injection was administered the condition of the woman deteriorated and she died on the operation table. After that her family members and local residents went on rampage and damaged the hospital property. The hospital staffs and doctor escaped from the scene.

Bhojpur DM Birendra Kumar Yadav sent the assistant election officer, Vikas Kumar, to Ara Sadar Hospital to  look into the matter. The CS said that the woman died at the gate of the operation theatre as she was anaemic and the doctor had already told her family members about it. But the family members forced the doctor to operate her. Sources in Ara Sadar Hospital said that formation of inquiry committee is just an eyewash and all the doctors would try to protect the lady doctor.

Karpuri Sharma, husband of the deceased, said that he had met Dr Arti Kumari on Monday for the treatment of his wife who had advised him to bring the patient to her private clinic at Mahavir Tola. As he was poor, he brought his wife to Ara Sadar Hospital where she died during treatment.
