Sasaram : Police have recovered iron blades of 150 years old Sundial stolen on February 8, 2022 from Aniket area at iDehri-on-Sone in Rohtas District in South Bihar. Some unidentified miscreants had stolen sundial from Aniket area populated by police officials at Dehri-on-Sone in Rohtas District. DIG, Shahabad range, Upendra Sharma, SP, Rohtas, Ashish Bharati, BMP-2 Commandant, Swapna Jee Meshram, and ASP Dr Navjot Simi lived in this area and their offices are also located there. The miscreants damaged the sundial and stole its iron blades.
The then British Governor had started a mechanical workshop at Dehri-on-Sone in 19th century with a view to developing Sone Canal system and got the Sundial made in 1871 for the lbenefit of abourers employed at the mechanical workshop. The Sundial showed exact time at an interval of every half an hour from dawn to dusk. The Sundial showed right time till it was damaged recently. It was unprotected though. People from remote corner of the country visited the area to have a glance of the sundial.
Angry locals had blamed the local administration for the theft and informed police about the incident. Taking serious note of the incident, Rohtas SP Ashish Bharati formed an SIT and the police team with the help of dog squad launched search operation and recovered the blades of the Sundial.
