New Delhi : India recorded 1,41,986 new Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours taking the tally of cases reported so far in the country to 3,53,68,372 at 8 am on January 8, 2022, as the exponential growth in virus continues at an alarming rate.

A total of 40,895 Covid-19 patients, however, recovered too in last 24 hours in the country taking the cumulative tally of recovered patients since the beginning of the pandemic to 3,44,12,740 on January 8, 2022., India’s recovery rate (RR) improved to 97.30% on the day.

India’s Active Caseload was 4,72,169 on January 8, 2022, an increase of 1,00,806 cases in last 24 hours. Active cases constituted 1.34% of the country’s total Positive Cases on January 8, 2022, according to Union Health Ministry figure.

The last 24 hours saw a total of 15,29,948 sample tests being conducted in the country. India has so far conducted over 68.84 Crore (68,84,70,959) sample tests. The  Weekly Positivity Rate in the country was 5.66% on January 8, 2022, while the Daily Positivity rate was  9.28%.

Meanwhile, with the administration of more than 90 lakh (90,59,360) vaccine doses in last 24 hours, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage  exceeded 150.61 Crore (150,61,92,903) as per provisional reports till 7 am on January 8, 2022. This has been achieved through 1,60,89,073 sessions.

India logged 285 new deaths due to Covid-19 in last 24 hours taking the toll to 4,83, 463 in the country on January 8, 2022.

More than 154.77 crore (1,54,77,87,725) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt. of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category. More than 17.88 Crore (17,88,98,351) balance and unutilised Covid Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
