Patna : World No 15 Kidambi Srikanth, 28, and World No 19 Lakshya Sen, 20, both Indis, reached the semi-finals of TotalEnergies BWF World Championships 2021 on December 17, 2021, at Heulva, Spain, winning their respective quarter-finals matches in contrasting fashion.

Srikanth defeated World No 29 Mark Caljouw, 26, Netherlands, in straight games while Lakshya Sen defeated World No 45 Zhao Jun Peng, 25, China, in three-games. Both Srikanth and Lakshya are now assured of their maiden medals at BWF World Championships.

Srikanth hammered Caljouw in straight games 21-8, 21-7 in quarter-final in just 26 minutes. Srikanth won 42 rallies during the match to just 15 by the Dutch. He won 7 consecutive points during the match to 2 by Caljouw.  It was first meeting between the two players.

Lakshya Sen, on the other hand, edged past Zhao Jun Peng in a three-game thriller 21-15, 15-21, 22-20 in 67 minutes in quarter-final. Lakshya won 58 rallies during the match to 56 by Pend. Both the players won 6 consecutive points each during the match. It was first meeting between the two players.
