Gopalganj: Cash and gold jewellery worth thousands of rupees were stolen from the house of a ward councillor M Khatoon at ward number-1 in Meerganj Nagar Parishad under Meerganj police station in Gopalganj district in the wee hours on January 1, 2017.
The theft was detected when one of thieves returned to collect his shoe left outside the house at around 4 am on Sunday. The thieve was handed over to the local police and was identified as Aakash Kumar. Police said that Aakash, a resident of Meerganj, was earlier also involved in cases of criminal offences.
Aakash is a resident of ward number-10 of Meerganj locality. Police recovered Rs 14,000 cash besides nine pieces of jewellery from his possession. Police said that the arrested youth admitted that his two other associates had escaped after the theft. An FIR has been lodged in this connection on the statement of ward member’s son Murtaza Saifi.
