Patna : Reigning Olympic Champion Viktor Axelsen, 27, Denmark, thumped World No 19 Lakshya Sen, 20, India, in straight games in a Group stage match at season-ending HSBC BWF World Tour Finals at Bali, I ndonesia, on December 2, 2021.
Axelsen, the 2017 World Champion, beat Lakshya 21-15, 21-14 in 46 minutes. Axelsen won 42 points during the match to 29 points by the India. The Dane won 8 consecutive points during the match to 4 by Lakshya.
Lakshya Sen is, however, likely to reach semi-finals as he has got a walkover in his next Group stage match scheduled for December 3, 2021. His opponent Rasmus Gemke, Denmark, will not be able to play due to injury. Lakshya Sen had also got walkover in his first Group match against World No 1 Kento Momota, Japan. Momota had retired due to injury in the first game itself.
