New Delhi : The National Human Rights Commission ( NHRC), India, led by its Chairperson Justice Arun Mishra has decided to revive the Open Hearing mechanism of the Commission in different States to hear grievances of the general public regarding alleged violation of human rights. The decision has been taken in view of improvement in Covid situation.
During open hearings, the officers concerned are asked to be present so that appropriate relief could be recommended to the victims of human rights violation on the spot. The open hearings also facilitate sensitisation of the government functionaries at various levels on human rights issues and expediting the submission of reports in different matters of human rights violations as asked by the Commission.
Post Covid restrictions, the first public hearing is starting at Shillong to hear complainants from the States of Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura on December 14 & 15, 2021. It will be followed by the public hearing of the complaints of alleged human rights violation from the people in the States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, and Sikkim at Guwahati on December 16 & 17, 2021, according to an NHRC release.
The Commission had already issued a public notice through the State governments concerned for the information of the people to send complaints of alleged human rights violation by a public servant or of negligence by a public servant in prevention of such violation to the Commission by Registered Post/Speed Post or through email at jrlawnhrc@nic.in byNovember 27, 2021.
