Patna : Chennai Super Kings (CSK) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by 27 runs in IPL final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, UAE, on October 15, 2021, late night, winning the IPL Trophy for the 4th time, as fast medium bowler Shardul Thakur took 3/38 in 4 overs including 2 wickets in 11th over while spinner Ravindra Jadeja took 2/37 in 4 overs, both the wickets in the 15th over. Chasing a target of 193 runs, KKR could score just 165/9 in 20 overs although fast bowler Lockie Ferguson and fast medium bowler Shivam Mavi added 39 runs in 21 balls for the 8th wicket with the latter hitting back to back sixes off Dwayne Bravo in 18th over. Mavi fell to Bravo for 20 in final over.
KKR had a solid start with openers Vekatesh Iyer and Shubhman Gill adding 91 runs for the first wicket in 10.4 overs. But, Iyer fell to Shardul Thakur in the same over for 50 runs in 32 balls hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes making it 91/1. After the departure of Iyer, KKR lost momentum and wickets fall in a heap. Opener Shubhman Gill fell to Deepak Chahar for 51 in 43 balls with 6 fours. Captain Eoin Morgan scored just 4 runs continuing his flop show while Dinesh Karthik (wk) scored 9 runs.
